Confronting Growth

Mar 7, 2004 | Uncategorized

Events happen in our lives for a reason. Often, when we are in the midst of chaos, our perception becomes tainted. Our inner voice causes us to doubt ourselves. Our attitude takes a nose dive. We become lost in the trivial details and/or overwhelmed with the big picture. We struggle to feel balanced in any dimension.

Embrace growth

Our personal journeys offer us many unique opportunities for growth. One recent Brain Gym® student expressed how choosing to step forward and embrace growth can feel confrontational. Yes, we are confronting and bringing to consciousness our imperfections. This is the taking stock phase of goal setting. “Where am I right now?” When we are ready, willing and able, we step forward into “where do I want to go from here?” What is my goal? How can I change the imperfection into something positive, active, clear and energetic? Balancing for the goal leads to new growth that ripples out from our core to encompass all whom our lives touch.

Living and learning is a process. It is so exciting to watch paradigms and thought patterns shift. Brain Gym® 101 is a safe environment for adults to step out of the caretaker mode where we spend so much energy on others and nurture ourselves. It is like a spa-experience for the brain. Like any spa or retreat experience, it is important to continue being gentle and kind to oneself once you leave. Give yourself time to integrate new learning. Be mindful and present—be authentic.

Onion analogy

Remember that all of life is dynamic and ever-changing. We are complex creatures. Like an onion, there are many layers to our being. Believe that each situation you encounter has something to offer you. Be patient when you go into a stuck stressed state. Sometimes we need to experience discomfort in our body, feelings and mind before it is appropriate to return to a state of balance. Honoring and respecting without judging are life skills that improve our own self-talk and our interactions with others.

I invite you to continue exploring Brain Gym® and all it has to offer. In addition to the events listed, I am happy to tailor to your needs in private consultations and the workplace: staff meetings, teacher training, parent ed., etc. Pose an idea and we’ll collaborate on an appropriate solution.
