Growing season and personal development that a summer course offers.
Spring introduces the season of growth. In Minnesota, the melting snow revealed lost snow shovels and mittens. Perennials have been uncovered and nudged back to life. Grass, and weeds, are rapidly growing. Gardens are being planted with the intention of fresh fruits and vegetables come July and August.
What are the signs of spring? The trees have leafed out and our house is now hidden from the road. The lilacs are blooming and goslings are hatching. The turtles are sunning themselves on the log by the pond and the tree frogs are back on my windows in search of tasty insects. In case you are wondering, I love Spring! (Of course Iâve been known to love every season, each for different reasons!)
As much as spring represents new life, as an educator, spring is a time of winding down from the school year. It marks the end of one cycle and the start of another. It can be a wonderful time to reflect on what worked well and what could be tweaked in the future. When self-reflecting, we may discover some âweedsâ and areas of overgrowth. When I notice patterns, I find it helpful to ask, âIs _________ serving me well?â If the answer is no, then perhaps it is time to prune or weed the inner garden. This process can directly impact our summer plans as we set intentions and determine our next direction.
I consider summer the growing season physically and metaphorically. For many, summer is a wonderfully appropriate time for personal growth and professional development. Maybe that means using what has already been learned and doing some self-balances. Perhaps, it is re- connecting with a co-learner from a previous class as is suggested in the Tips and Tools. It might mean attending a course or even repeating a course (at ! price).
The tools available in Educational Kinesiology really help one to bloom and reach their full potential. I invite you to create time for self-care as you grow your own inner garden!
