Sabbatical and Next Step

Feb 10, 2010 | Business, Uncategorized

Here it is 2010 and I’m writing the December 2009 newsletter. In some ways, the constant swim upstream is exhausting and in other ways it is most exhilarating! What is my schedule for 2010? Which courses will come to Minnesota this year? Will I sponsor or be sponsored? What does this new decade hold for me and for the Brain Gym work that I so passionately share? In Brain Gym® 101 we speak of anticipation within the Focus Dimension; I am doing my best to anticipate the future within a balanced focus dimension and recognizing when I slip out of balance into over-focus (tunnel vision) and/or under-focus (overwhelm).

My questions are numerous and fondly remind me of question-filled conversations with my colleague Judy Grant. Our talks would spin from subject to subject raising more questions than there were answers. They frequently exhausted me, inspired me, and filled me with a sense of “so much to do and so little time to do it”. While there is indeed much to do, it is important to schedule rest. I think Judy learned to rest and receive in 2009; she taught me to do likewise. As I grieve the loss of my colleague, I am doing my best to anchor in the lessons learned.

Sabbatical means to take time off, to vacation; its origin is the Sabbath. December and January were filled with times of rest. My entire family commented on my cooking, cleaning, and playing, rather than working unendingly. They notice a relaxed momma! I didn’t realize how immersed I was in work until I stopped. Whew! My eyes enjoyed looking away from a computer screen. I snowmobiled and ice fished. I began knitting again…does anyone need a new hat? I stayed home for days on end—no running to teach preschool in Roseville, no Brain Gym workshops.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE

Time off was great and yet, there is a lot to do. As my website shows, I have Brain Gym courses scheduled at Hamline University as well as many introductions to Brain Gym in 2010. In addition to many Minnesota gigs, I’ll be in River Falls, WI, as well as Boston, MA, and Devil’s Lake, North Dakota. I look forward to filling out the rest of the calendar by teaching courses here and elsewhere. Please contact me to share what you are interested in learning.
